Rawalpindi (Web Desk): The Pakistan Navy has rescued 18 crew members of various nationalities during an emergency operation in the North Arabian Sea, after responding to a distress signal from a merchant vessel located around 200 nautical miles off Pakistan’s coastline, the military's media wing said on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the call for help was received from the vessel “Gold Autumn,” triggering an immediate response from naval authorities. Pakistan Navy Ship Hunain was deployed to the scene, where it carried out a carefully coordinated search and rescue mission.
The crew on board provided first aid to the injured, supported firefighting efforts, and assessed the condition of the vessel before safely evacuating all personnel.
Those rescued included citizens of China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia. After the operation, they were brought to Karachi, where medical assistance is being provided, and arrangements are being made for their return to their home countries.
The Pakistan Navy stated that conducting such an operation at a considerable distance from shore reflects its preparedness and ongoing commitment to handling emergencies across its maritime jurisdiction.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the Navy’s timely and efficient action in saving the lives of the stranded crew. In his remarks, he praised the professionalism, quick response, and humanitarian approach displayed by the naval personnel.
He said that upon receiving the distress alert, PNS Hunain acted without delay and ensured the safe evacuation of individuals belonging to multiple countries.
The premier added that all rescued crew members are currently in Karachi receiving necessary care, while steps are being taken to facilitate their safe repatriation.
PM Shehbaz reiterated that the Pakistan Navy will continue to fulfil its responsibility as a frontline responder in maritime emergencies within its area of operations.
