Constitution 1973 is key to Pakistan's survival, political stability: President Zardari

Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari has described the 1973 Constitution as the foundation of Pakistan’s survival, democratic continuity, and political stability, stating that a strong democracy can only be achieved through sincere and complete implementation of the Constitution of Pakistan.

In his special message on Constitution Day, the President said that the people are the true owners of their destiny, and the Constitution is the ultimate protector of their fundamental rights.

President Zardari highlighted that the 1973 Constitution provides the basic legal and political framework of the state, keeping all federating units united within a strong federal structure.

He noted that the Constitution is the result of extensive consultation and consensus among all political forces, which gives it exceptional importance and strength.

He further said that despite various challenges and difficult circumstances, the Constitution has ensured continuity of the state and strengthened national institutions in Pakistan.

Paying tribute to historical figures, the President called Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto the “chief architect” of the 1973 Constitution and praised his political vision and commitment to democracy.

He also described the Charter of Democracy as a key milestone in strengthening Pakistan’s democratic system, saying it helped steer the country away from authoritarian rule and back onto a constitutional and democratic path.
