Modi’s ‘Beti Bachao’ exposed: Kolkata gang rape highlights India’s state failure

New Delhi/Kolkata (Web Desk): The recent gang rape of a 24-year-old student at Kolkata Law College has once again exposed the falsehood of the Indian government’s claims regarding women’s safety under Narendra Modi’s administration. The slogans like "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) appear to be mere political rhetoric.

According to an NDTV report, the assault took place in the college guard room where two senior students and a former student locked the guard inside after threatening him. The victim was also subjected to blackmail following the incident. The girl gave statements under anonymous initials (J, M, P), which have been verified by medical reports and CCTV footage.

One of the accused, Manojit Mishra, linked to a political organization, remains at large, highlighting the protection powerful individuals enjoy within India’s judicial and educational systems. The college administration learned about the incident through the media, underscoring serious lapses in security and transparency.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, over 30,000 rape cases are reported annually in India, with 43 women falling victim to sexual violence every hour. Experts believe this case reflects the Modi government’s increasingly hostile environment towards women, a concern voiced by the US and other countries.
