President Zardari, PM Shehbz congratulate Japan PM Sanae Takaichi on landslide election victory

Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended warm congratulations to Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi following her Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) overwhelming success in the lower house elections, which secured her party a commanding majority in the House of Representatives.

In a statement, President Zardari highlighted that the resounding electoral victory reflects the strong trust the Japanese people place in Prime Minister Takaichi’s leadership and her commitment to steering Japan toward prosperity and strength.

He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s eagerness to further deepen friendly ties with Japan and to enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Prime Minister Takaichi on her re-election, sharing his message on his official X account.

The premier expressed his anticipation of continued cooperation under her leadership, aiming to broaden and diversify the already strong bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Japan.

Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, under the leadership of Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, delivered a stunning performance in the Lower House elections held on Sunday, emerging with an unprecedented mandate. NHK News reported that the party captured 316 seats, easily exceeding the 261 required to command a majority in the 465-seat chamber.

The outcome represents the largest parliamentary haul in the LDP’s history since it was formed in 1955, overtaking the long-standing record of 300 seats set during former prime minister Yasuhiro Nakasone’s landslide win in 1986.

The victory was amplified by the success of the Japan Innovation Party, which secured 36 seats, bringing the ruling coalition’s combined strength to 352 seats and cementing its firm grip on the lower house.
