Abdul Sattar Edhi remembered on 10th death anniversary 

Karachi (Web Desk): The 10th death anniversary of the great humanitarian and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi is being observed today (Wednesday), with the world remembering a man whose unwavering dedication to serving people transformed the landscape of social welfare in Pakistan.

Born on February 28, 1928 in Gujarat, British India, Abdul Sattar Edhi embarked on his mission of public service in 1951. What began as a modest welfare initiative eventually evolved into one of the world's most respected charitable organisations.

Through the Edhi Foundation, he built the largest volunteer ambulance network globally while establishing orphanages, shelters for the homeless, and rescue centres for abandoned and injured animals across Pakistan.

His exceptional contributions to humanity earned him numerous national and international distinctions, including the Asian Nobel Award, the Lenin Peace Prize, and Pakistan's highest civilian honour, Nishan-e-Imtiaz.

Edhi passed away in Karachi on July 8, 2016, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy defined by compassion, humility, and selfless service.

On the occasion of his 10th death anniversary, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid glowing tribute to the late philanthropist, praising his lifelong commitment to helping the most vulnerable members of society.

In his message, President Zardari described Abdul Sattar Edhi as the finest example of kindness, humanity, and service, saying his extraordinary work continues to inspire people across generations.

He noted that the Edhi Foundation developed a comprehensive welfare system, featuring the world's largest volunteer ambulance service, which has remained a vital source of assistance for people affected by emergencies and disasters.

The president said Edhi's unparalleled humanitarian efforts had secured him a permanent place among the nation's most respected figures and made him a lasting symbol of Pakistan's pride.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the late social worker, saying that personalities like Abdul Sattar Edhi provide invaluable inspiration for young people striving to bring meaningful change to society.

He observed that Edhi demonstrated how a single individual, driven by sincerity and determination, could make an extraordinary difference in improving the lives of others.

Highlighting his remarkable contributions to public welfare, the prime minister described Edhi as a treasured national asset whose lifelong service enriched Pakistan's social fabric.

He said Edhi's dedication underscored the importance of addressing societal challenges through compassion and collective responsibility while fostering values such as empathy, tolerance, and social harmony.

Praying for peace for the departed soul of Edhi, PM Shehbaz said that his social services would always be remembered.
