Pakistan begins mediation between rival Libyan factions: sources

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan has launched a fresh diplomatic initiative aimed at facilitating dialogue between Libya's rival factions, marking another significant step in the country's growing role in regional conflict mediation.

According to sources, Pakistan has begun efforts to bring together Libya's eastern and western political blocs after both sides reportedly sought Islamabad's assistance in resolving the long-running political divide.

The mediation initiative is said to have the knowledge and support of the United States and Saudi Arabia, with both countries reportedly assisting the process as Pakistan works to encourage negotiations between the rival Libyan factions.

Sources further revealed that a 36-month transitional power-sharing framework is currently under consideration as part of efforts to promote national reconciliation and political stability in Libya.

Pakistan is expected to play an active role in facilitating discussions aimed at making the proposed arrangement successful.

Diplomatic sources said Islamabad's objective is to help build political consensus among the competing sides and create conditions for meaningful negotiations that could lead to a durable and peaceful settlement of Libya's prolonged political crisis.
