NDMA warns of flash flood risk in in parts of GB, AJK after heavy rains forecast 

Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), through its National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), has issued a fresh advisory warning of potential flash flooding in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) due to forecasted heavy rainfall from August 6 to 7.

The warning comes amid predictions of rain accompanied by windstorms and isolated heavy downpours that could trigger sudden water surges in vulnerable areas.

In AJK, the districts expected to be most affected include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur. Similarly, in Gilgit-Baltistan, areas such as Diamir, Skardu, Hunza, Shiger, and Ghanche have been identified as being at heightened risk of flash flooding due to potential increases in water levels in local streams and nullahs.

Authorities are urging residents living near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas to remain vigilant, particularly during nighttime and periods of intense rainfall.

People are advised to pre-identify safe evacuation routes and take precautionary measures by moving vehicles, livestock, and valuable belongings to safer, elevated locations.

The NDMA strongly advises against attempting to cross flooded roads, causeways, or bridges during or after heavy rains, as water levels can rise rapidly without warning.

Citizens are encouraged to stay informed by following updates through television, radio broadcasts, SMS alerts, and the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application.

NEOC remains in close contact with provincial and district-level authorities to ensure timely response and preparedness in case of any emergency.
