Severe flooding in Chenab River several submerges villages in South Punjab

Lahore / Muzaffargarh / Jhang (Web Desk): The Chenab River is currently experiencing a high-level flood, resulting in the submergence of several villages across Muzaffargarh, Jhang, and Khanewal districts. Rescue teams are actively working around the clock to protect the Doaba and Sher Shah flood embankments from breaching.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division, flood conditions persist in the Sutlej and Ravi rivers as well. Water discharge at Head Ganda Singhwala has exceeded 353,000 cusecs, while Head Balloki on the Ravi River has recorded a flood flow of 157,000 cusecs.

The floodwaters have inundated one lane of the Muzaffargarh-Dera Ghazi Khan National Highway, disrupting traffic, and the surrounding areas of Muhammadwala are also flooded.

At the Noorwala flood relief camp in Liaquatpur, displaced families face shortages of animal feed, medicines, and tents. Local residents have urged authorities to provide immediate assistance.

Meanwhile, water levels in the Indus River remain high. The flow rates at Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages are recorded at 360,000, 329,000, and 237,000 cusecs respectively.

Authorities have intensified relief operations and evacuation efforts in the affected districts to mitigate the impact of the ongoing floods.
