PM Shehbaz said that President Trump’s constructive response to appeals made by Pakistan as well as other friendly countries, particularly Saudi Arabia and its Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, would significantly contribute to easing tensions and strengthening prospects for peace, stability, and reconciliation in the region during a sensitive phase.
He reiterated that Pakistan continues to stand firmly behind all initiatives that encourage restraint and support the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual understanding.
PM Shehbaz also expressed hope that the ongoing diplomatic developments will help generate sustained momentum toward a comprehensive and durable agreement, ultimately ensuring lasting peace and stability across the wider region and beyond.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced that the US would temporarily halt its mission aimed at assisting commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, pointing to what he described as major progress toward a broader agreement with Iran.
In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran, we have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed.”
