Multan (Web Desk): Saraiki Culture and Saraiki Ajrak Day is observed today (Wednesday) to promote culture of Saraiki belt.
Saraiki nationalists, political parties, civil society members and students today gathered at Multan Tea House to celebrate the day, the Radio Pakistan reported.
The organizers held Saraiki Jhoomer (dance), played songs and all the participants were wearing blue Saraiki Ajrak to celebrate the cultural day.
On the occasion, the speakers said they are spreading the message of love and care to prote tolerance and peace in the society.
In his congratulatory message in connection with Saraiki Culture and Saraiki Ajrak Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the incumbent government would play its role in promoting the local languages, literature, and cultures of all the regions in the country.
“All the colors of the Saraiki region are beautiful while being rich in different cultures and traditions,” he said.
Calling the Saraiki dialect “very sweet” the premier said that it is not only spoken in South Punjab but also in Balochistan and India.
“Saraiki language and the Saraiki writers had immense contributions to literature, poetry, and music,” PM Shehbaz said.
“Saraiki culture was rooted in the thousands of years old Indus Valley Civilisation,” Shehbaz Sharif asserted.
He said that the saints like Hazrat Bahauddin Zakaria, Hazrat Shah Ruknuddin Alam, Khawaja Ghulam Fareed. Salman Taunsavi, Sakhi Sarwar Shah and Shams Tabraiz also enriched the Saraiki language through their words.
PM Shehbaz said that the promotion of South Punjab’s culture, literature, and art has always been among the government’s priorities.
Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif also extended her felicitations to Saraiki sisters and brothers on Saraiki Cultural Day.
In her message, the Punjab CM said that Saraiki land gave birth to eminent personalities who became an asset to Pakistan.
“Punjab is the guardian of Pakistan’s culture and ancient traditions,” Maryam Nawaz said.
