Interior Minister Naqvi calls on PM Shehbaz, receives guidelines ahead of Tehran visit amid efforts to ease US-Iran tensions

Islamabad (Web Desk): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore on Saturday, where they reviewed in detail the country’s law and order situation along with the broader internal security landscape.

The interior minister updated the premier on the ongoing efforts and policy measures being implemented to ensure stability, reinforce public safety, and strengthen protection mechanisms for citizens across the country.

Naqvi also conveyed details about his scheduled visit to Tehran and obtained the Prime Minister’s guidance in this regard.

Furthermore, he briefed the prime minister on his important diplomatic and official engagements held during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference in Kyrgyzstan.

PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of maintaining close institutional coordination and reiterated that a unified and comprehensive strategy among all relevant departments is necessary to further improve law and order and enhance the overall effectiveness of the national security system.

Pakistan has further intensified its diplomatic efforts to mediate and help reduce escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, according to diplomatic sources.

According to sources, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to depart for Tehran on an important official visit today (Saturday).

This will mark his third major visit to Iran within the current year, reflecting the growing pace of diplomatic engagement between the two regional neighbors.

During his stay in Tehran, Naqvi will hold high-level meetings with Iran’s top leadership, including the President, Speaker of Parliament, and Foreign Minister.

The discussions are likely to focus on strengthening Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations as well as consulting on the recent escalation of tensions between Washington and Tehran.

It is worth noting that earlier negotiations between Iran and the United States held in Islamabad concluded without any agreement.

However, diplomatic efforts continue, and a draft memorandum of understanding between the two sides is reportedly being finalized.

In connection with these backchannel efforts, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir has also reportedly visited Tehran multiple times in recent months for strategic consultations aimed at supporting regional stability and diplomatic coordination.
