At UN, Pakistan raises concern over developments in Venezuela, calls for diplomacy to resolve crisis

New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has raised serious alarm over the latest turn of events in Venezuela, emphasizing that disagreements must be settled through dialogue and diplomatic channels rather than confrontation.

Addressing an emergency sitting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative, Usman Jadoon, warned that with the international community already under strain from multiple global crises, fresh instability in the Caribbean region could further undermine both regional and international peace.

He underscored that the UN Charter clearly commits all member states to uphold sovereign equality, refrain from meddling in the internal matters of other countries, and resolve disputes through peaceful means.

Stressing these core principles, Usman Jadoon noted that any unilateral use of military force stands in clear violation of international law and the long-established doctrine of sovereign immunity.

He added that Pakistan is calling on all concerned parties to demonstrate restraint, take steps to lower tensions, and avoid actions that might further worsen an already volatile situation.

At the same time, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who was reportedly taken into custody by US forces, appeared before a federal court in New York for a hearing related to allegations of narcotics trafficking and other charges.

He denied all accusations, telling the court that he had been forcibly abducted and maintaining that he continues to be the sitting president of Venezuela.

Maduro, a left-wing leader, along with his wife, son, and three other individuals, now faces the prospect of life imprisonment if convicted of claims that they worked with drug trafficking organizations to help move massive quantities of cocaine into the United States.
