Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan and Turkiye have strengthened their judicial ties by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering greater cooperation between their legal systems.
The MoU was signed in Islamabad on Monday by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Yahya Afridi, and President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, Kadir Ozkaya, during a formal ceremony.
Addressing the event, CJP Afridi called the agreement “a significant step forward for our respective judiciaries.”
He emphasized that the MoU is more than a routine document of collaboration, saying, “It represents the shared vision and resolve to strengthen constitutional governance, uphold the rule of law, ensure judicial independence and protect fundamental rights.”
He outlined that the MoU provides a forward-looking blueprint for partnership, with particular focus on the exchange of judicial knowledge and best practices, promotion of comparative constitutional jurisprudence, reinforcement of institutional links, and enhancement of capacity building through joint programs, research initiatives, and judicial exchanges.
In his remarks on the occasion, President of the Turkish Constitutional Court Kadir Ozkaya highlighted that the relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye “extends far beyond ordinary diplomacy,” acknowledging the enduring solidarity between their peoples.
He said the MoU “serves to strengthen and renew the cooperation that has already been established between our institutions.”
Praising the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) for its unwavering commitment to constitutional values and the rule of law, he expressed confidence that the collaboration would be highly effective and yield significant benefits for both countries.
