Pakistan to continue efforts for de-escalation between US and Iran: DPM Dar

Islamabad (Web Desk): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan will continue efforts for de-escalation between the United States (US) and Iran.

Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, he highlighted contacts with his counterparts from different countries over the last three days, were aimed at encouraging both sides to resolve their disputes through dialogue and diplomatic channels.

Dar voiced his astonishment at the recent attack on Iran, describing it as a repetition of the events from June of the previous year.

Highlighting close and fraternal ties with Iran, he said that Pakistan promptly condemned the aggression.

He underscored that such conflicts are detrimental to all parties involved and affirmed Pakistan’s acknowledgment of Iran’s right to pursue nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The deputy prime minister informed lawmakers that an in-camera briefing will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:30am. for leaders and opposition members of both the National Assembly and the Senate to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East. The briefing will also address issues related to Afghanistan.

DPM Dar also apprised the house on measures taken for the safe return of Pakistani nationals from Iran, reporting that 792 citizens, including 46 students, have been repatriated.

He described the current regional situation as challenging, emphasizing the urgency of diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
