Punjab launches evidence-based e-challan system for traffic violations

Lahore  (Web Desk): The Punjab government has launched a new evidence-based e-challan system across the province to strengthen the enforcement of traffic laws while ensuring greater transparency and fairness.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Traffic Police, motorists who violate traffic rules will receive an alert SMS from 8070 containing a unique link. By clicking the link, recipients will be able to view video footage and photographs of their alleged traffic violation.

The spokesperson said the system has been rolled out province-wide through the Traffic Police One App. Introduced on the directives of the Punjab chief minister, the initiative is aimed at making the issuance of traffic challans more transparent, accountable, and trustworthy.

DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir said the new mechanism is expected to significantly reduce unnecessary disputes between motorists and traffic officers, save time, and enable more effective legal action against individuals who fail to pay their traffic fines.

He added that the adoption of modern technology will make the traffic policing system more efficient, transparent, and accountable. The evidence-based challan process is also expected to promote uniform enforcement of traffic laws and strengthen public confidence in the system.
