Apple declares three MacBook models "obsolete", ends all support and parts

California (Web Desk): Apple has officially classified three of its older MacBook models as “obsolete”, meaning they will no longer be eligible for hardware services or replacement parts from the company or its authorized service providers.

The models now deemed obsolete include:

11-inch MacBook Air (2015)
13-inch MacBook Pro (2017)
15-inch MacBook Pro (2017)

According to Apple, a product is labeled as obsolete once it has been more than seven years since its last sale by the company. After this point, Apple and its authorized service centers cease to provide any hardware repairs or order replacement parts for the device.

Tech experts noted that this move was expected, as these models had already been listed as “vintage” in previous years — a designation that typically precedes official obsolescence.

As per Apple's support policy, the only way users might still get certain parts (like batteries) replaced is by sourcing components from other older devices. However, in most cases, hardware support has been completely discontinued.

Apple advises users still relying on these models to consider upgrading, citing outdated performance, lack of security updates, and limited software compatibility as growing concerns with older devices.
