Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): A district and sessions court on Thursday discharged Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib from the case registered against the former three-star general on charges of inciting the public against state institutions.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra announced the verdict on the review plea filed by Amjad Shoaib against his physical remand and to discharge him from the case.
During today’s proceedings, the prosecution opposed the discharge request made by Shoaib’s lawyers.
Earlier, the defense counsel said that his speech had not violated any law. He also maintained that Lt Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib is a war veteran who took part in the 1965 and 1971 wars.
Police arrested Lieutenant General (retired) Amjad Shoaib on Monday morning on charges of inciting the public against national institutions.
