PM Shehbaz highlights role of GSP+ in cementing Pak-EU trade ties

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the European Union (EU) in key areas including trade, investment, climate change, security, migration, sustainable development, and connectivity.

He made these remarks during a meeting in Islamabad with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.

During the meeting, the prime minister stressed that the GSP+ arrangement plays a vital role in strengthening and sustaining trade relations between Pakistan and the European Union.

He added that Pakistan attaches great importance to its diverse and evolving partnership with the EU and wishes to take it further forward.

Both sides also exchanged views on important regional and international issues. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged and appreciated the European Union’s support for Pakistan’s initiatives aimed at promoting peace in the Gulf region.

PM Shehbaz also noted that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar along with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are actively engaged in advancing these peace efforts.

He further emphasized that the global community, including the European Union, must work together in a coordinated manner to achieve long-term peace and stability in the region.

The prime minister also shared Pakistan’s viewpoint on the evolving situation in South Asia as well as developments in Afghanistan with the EU delegation.

On this occasion, he conveyed his good wishes to European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, while once again extending invitations for them to visit Pakistan in the near future.

In her remarks, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, appreciated Pakistan’s contribution toward regional peace and expressed the European Union’s strong interest in strengthening its strategic relationship with Pakistan further.
