Arshad Nadeem retains javelin gold medal at Asian Athletics Championship

Gumi, South Korea (Web Desk): Pakistan’s javelin sensation Arshad Nadeem delivered a remarkable performance on Day 5 of the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea, capturing the gold medal in the Men’s Javelin Throw final with a sensational throw of 86.40 meters.

This distance stands as the best of the season in Asia and reinforces Nadeem’s position as one of the continent’s top athletes in the discipline.

Already an Olympic gold-medalist, Arshad outclassed a strong field of competitors, sealing his victory with a powerful sixth-round throw.

Earlier in the competition, he had maintained a leading position with throws of 83.99 meters and 83.44 meters, but it was his final effort that proved decisive and secured the top spot on the podium.

Arshad’s performance placed him ahead of India’s Sachin Yadav and Japan’s Sakiyama, both of whom also delivered outstanding results.

Yadav claimed the silver medal for India with a personal best throw of 85.16 meters, showing significant improvement in the closing stages of the final.

Japan’s Sakiyama followed closely with a personal best of 83.75 meters to earn the bronze medal. Just missing out on a podium finish was Sri Lanka’s Pathirage, who delivered a commendable throw of 83.27 meters.

India’s Singh finished fifth with 82.57 meters, while China’s Hu took sixth place with a season-best throw of 80.93 meters. Completing the top eight were Sri Lanka’s Ranasinghe Mudiyanselage and Pakistan’s Yasir.

Arshad Nadeem’s triumph marks a proud moment for Pakistan in track and field athletics.

Although his winning throw narrowly missed the Championship Record of 86.72 meters and the Asian Record of 92.97 meters, it has set a high standard for the 2025 season across Asia.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday felicitated Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem on clinching a gold medal in the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, currently underway in Gumi, South Korea.

In his message, President Zardari said that Arshad Nadeem had once again brought laurels to the country in javelin throwing as he showed superb performance throughout the championship.

PM Shehbaz said that Arshad Nadeem is continuing his journey of success, further enhancing prestige of the country’s flag.

He said that Arshad’s hard work, passion and brilliant success is a guiding precedent for the young athletes.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has congratulated Pakistan’s javelin throw champions Arshad Nadeem and Yasir Sultan on their remarkable victory at the Asian Athletics Championship, calling them national heroes and symbols of pride.

In her message, the Punjab CM said that the hard work of Arshad Nadeem and Yasir Sultan, along with the prayers of the entire nation, has brought this proud moment for Pakistan.”

Maryam Nawaz extended her heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to both athletes for their continued success.

“Alhamdulillah, From every field, there is a wave of good news and joy for Pakistan,” she remarked.
Commending the emotional and symbolic significance of the achievement, she said, “With Arshad Nadeem’s spear, the hopes and prayers of the nation soared. With the gold medal, not only were hearts won, but history was made.”

“Heroes like Arshad Nadeem and Yasir Sultan are beacons of inspiration for our youth. They have shown the world that with state support, Pakistani youth can reach the highest peaks,” the Punjab CM said.
