NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Indian FM Jaishankar meet in Dhaka amid condolence visit

Dhaka (Web Desk): In a rare moment of direct engagement, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Dhaka, marking the first high-level interaction between leaders of the two nations since the armed clashes in May.

The encounter took place at the residence of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, on the sidelines of events following her passing.

As per the media reports quoting sources present there, Dr. Jaishankar personally approached Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, greeted him with a handshake, and exchanged brief words inquiring about each other’s well-being.

Sardar Speaker Sadiq responded warmly, and the two shared a moment of cordiality amid a setting crowded with international dignitaries.

Although the interaction was informal and no official discussions occurred, it drew attention due to its timing and symbolism, coming after a period of heightened tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

Observers highlight that even brief personal exchanges like this underscore the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels and dialogue, particularly during sensitive periods in regional relations.
