Pakistan needs 33 provinces to empower common man: Mian Aamer Mahmood

Multan (Web Desk): Punjab Group Chairman Mian Aamer Mahmood stated that  that creating more provinces in Pakistan would ensure the devolution of powers to the grassroots level and allow a greater number of people to rise on the basis of merit.

Addressing a seminar on awareness organised by Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP) at University of Southern Punjab in Multan, he proposed creation of at least 33 provinces in Pakistan so that ordinary citizens can also be truly empowered.

He emphasized that Punjab is the largest province of the country, with a population of approximately 130 million people.

To illustrate the scale, Mian Aaamer pointed out that if Punjab were to be considered a separate country, it would rank as the 13th largest nation in the world in terms of population.

Commenting on regional disparities, he mentioned that Balochistan is facing deteriorating conditions primarily due to the absence of welfare and development work. The lack of investment and attention to social development in Balochistan has led to ongoing socio-economic problems in the province.

The Punjab Group Chairman further criticized the unequal development pattern in Pakistan, noting that only five major cities (referred to as capital cities) have been given priority in terms of progress and infrastructure development. This indicates a lack of inclusive growth and planning.

However, he also pointed out a positive initiative in Punjab, where modern air quality monitoring systems have been installed. These tools are being used to monitor pollution and environmental conditions, suggesting an effort to address climate and health-related concerns in at least one part of the country.
