At UN Pakistan urges world to ensure implementation of Gaza peace plan, condemns Israeli actions

New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has urged the international community to ensure that the Gaza ceasefire is fully enforced and that ongoing peace initiatives are carried through without delay.

Addressing the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said that more than 1,100 Palestinians had lost their lives since the ceasefire took effect.

He stated that nearly two million residents remain confined to just 30 percent of Gaza, where they continue to face severe humanitarian hardships.

He also highlighted reports claiming that a massive earthen barrier is being built across the territory, a development that would further solidify Israeli control over almost 70 percent of Gaza.

The Pakistani envoy called on the UNSC to press for an immediate end to all settlement expansion and firmly oppose any efforts aimed at annexing land, forcibly displacing Palestinians, or changing the demographic and geographical identity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

He stressed that lasting and equitable peace could only be achieved through the establishment of an independent, sovereign, contiguous and viable Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif designated as its capital.

Speaking on the wider regional situation, Asim Iftikhar reaffirmed Pakistan's steadfast support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all brotherly nations in the region.

The Pakistani envoy urged every side to act with restraint, take immediate measures to reduce tensions, and fulfil their obligations under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to supporting all efforts that promote sustainable peace and stability in the region through dialogue, diplomacy, and constructive engagement.
