Islamabad (Web Desk): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Digital Pakistan Tania Aidrus on Wednesday announced to resign from her post due to recent criticism regarding her dual citizenship.

In her post on Twitter, Tania said, "Criticism levied towards the state as a consequence of my citizenship status is clouding the purpose of Digital Pakistan".

"In the greater public interest, I have submitted my resignation from the SAPM role. I will continue to serve my country and the PM’s vision to my best ability," she added.

She also attached a picture of her resignation letter addressed to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In the resignation letter, Aidrus said that she returned to Pakistan with the singular intent to contribute and develop the vision of a Digital Pakistan, a concept which PM Imran has always voiced and she shared.

Aidrus added that recent discourse in the public sphere about her Canadian citizenship, which is a consequence of her birth and not an acquisition of choice, is a distraction to her ability to execute on the long term vision for a Digital Pakistan.

She also reiterated her resolve to serve Pakistan and the PM’s vision to the best of her ability through initiatives both in private and public domain.

Tania Aidrus was among the SAPMs and advisers holding a dual nationality who had been criticised by opposition parties.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was severely criticised after it had disclosed details of the assets and nationalities of advisers and special assistants to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
