Lahore DC issues notification for Basant 2026

Lahore (Web Desk): The government has officially granted permission to celebrate the Basant festival in Lahore in 2026, with the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore issuing a notification in this regard.

According to the notification, kite flying will be permitted in the city on February 6, 7, and 8, 2026. During Basant, only approved and standard kite flying materials will be allowed. The production and trade of kite flying materials will be authorized from December 30, 2025, to February 8, 2026, while the sale of these materials to the public will be allowed between February 1 and February 8, 2026.

The district administration has specified that only registered vendors will be permitted to sell kite flying materials. The registration process for manufacturers, traders, and sellers began on December 29, 2025, and can be completed through the E-Biz app or the official Basant Punjab website (basant.punjab.gov.pk).

The notification also maintains a complete ban on the use of "Charkhi" (spinning tops) and strictly prohibits the use of metal wires, nylon, plastic, and sharp manja (kite thread). Only cotton thread of specific standards will be allowed. Additionally, limits have been set regarding the size and number of kites.

The administration has instructed all registered vendors to display their registration certificates prominently and keep a complete record of stock, sales, and the movement of materials.

The district administration stated that these measures aim to celebrate Basant in a safe manner and ensure the protection of citizens' lives and property.
