Oil prices are rising, blockade must be lifted, Germany sends firm message to Iran

Berlin (Web Desk): Germany has expressed deep concern over rising tensions and the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, urging Iran to immediately restore access to the strategically important waterway.

German officials warned that the ongoing situation is not only driving up global oil prices but also posing serious risks to the stability of the world economy.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said in a statement posted on social media platform X that the escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have left thousands of commercial vessels stranded, while nearly 20,000 sailors remain trapped at sea.

He stressed that the continued blockade is disrupting global trade routes and fueling uncertainty in international energy markets.

According to the German foreign minister, the obstruction of shipping activity in one of the world’s most vital maritime corridors is already contributing to rising oil prices, with the economic consequences being felt far beyond the Gulf region.

He warned that prolonged instability could negatively impact global economic growth and international supply chains.

Wadephul also called on the United Nations Security Council to play a decisive role in resolving the crisis. He urged the council to adopt an immediate resolution aimed at restoring peace, security, and freedom of navigation in the waterway.

Germany further reiterated its commitment to playing a more active role in international affairs and confirmed that it continues efforts to secure a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

The 15-member Security Council consists of five permanent members — China, France, Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom — all of which hold veto power, while the remaining 10 non-permanent seats are distributed among different regional groups.
