Islamabad (Web Desk): The Islamabad police on Monday arrested human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband Abdul Hadi from the federal capital.

According to a police sources, the couple was taken into custody by the Aabpara police for allegedly obstructing official duties.

A case has been filed against them, while Imaan Mazari has been moved to the women's police station.
The Islamabad police stated that actions of the couple posed a security threat during the visit of an international cricket team, as they disrupted official protocols.

The arrests followed an incident in which Imaan and her husband clashed with traffic police while trying to remove roadblocks intended for the England cricket team’s traffic arrangements.

The team was in Pakistan for a three-match Test series, with the last match held at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Witnesses reported that the confrontation occurred at the Islamabad Zero Point Interchange.

As per the allegations, Abdul Hadi assaulted police officers, hurled insults, and made threatening remarks.

However, Imaan contended that she was in a hurry to attend court, but the police maintained that the couple violated the established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for state guests and warned of potential legal repercussions.
