Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz reviews flood situation on Ravi River

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz conducted an on-site inspection of the escalating flood situation at Shahdara along the Ravi River. The water level has surged to dangerous heights following the release of floodwaters from India, with officials forecasting a flow of up to 200,000 cusecs by midday.

Accompanied by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Maryam Nawaz was briefed on the latest developments and praised the swift and coordinated response of government agencies, which helped avert large-scale devastation.

“Thanks to timely interventions and the grace of Allah, Punjab has been spared from severe losses,” said the Chief Minister. She highlighted that over 50,000 residents from vulnerable areas including Gujrat, Narowal, and Sialkot have been safely relocated to secure locations.

Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb confirmed that 12 lives have been lost due to the floods but reassured that all rescue agencies remain fully operational and committed to providing aid to affected communities. She called on citizens to unite and support relief efforts during this challenging time.

Prior to the visit, Maryam Nawaz, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected regions to assess the damage and coordinate further relief measures.

Authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert and prepared to respond swiftly to any emerging emergencies as the flood situation continues to evolve.
