Police inquiry report confirms SP Adeel Akbar committed suicide

Islamabad (Web Desk): The investigation into the death of Islamabad Police officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar, has revealed that he took his own life.

The inquiry report determined that Adeel Akbar had been suffering from severe psychological distress, deeply influenced by his past professional and personal experiences.

According to sources, the investigation included statements from his operator, driver, and medical professionals, all of whom confirmed that the officer’s death was a case of suicide.

The report indicated that Adeel Akbar had been under persistent and “deep-rooted stress,” which had begun affecting both his career and personal life.

His doctor’s statement revealed that Akbar had been deeply disheartened over his stalled promotion and had expressed suicidal thoughts multiple times.

The doctor had reportedly advised his family to keep him away from firearms and sharp objects for his safety.

The findings also noted that SP Adeel had faced a departmental inquiry in Balochistan that lasted two years, during which his promotion was put on hold. The disciplinary action that followed reportedly worsened his mental condition.

He was later transferred to Islamabad in hopes of facilitating his promotion, but his declining psychological state prevented that from happening.

According to the report, on October 8, Adeel visited his doctor for a routine consultation and discussed workplace stress and personal struggles.

Although he appeared calm and claimed to be feeling better at the time, the report stated that on the day of the incident, Adeel spent some time sitting in his vehicle before heading to the Secretariat with his operator and driver.

Tragically, the senior police officer ended his life near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

It was revealed that Adeel's final phone call was from SP Saddar Yasir, during which they reportedly talked about an incident in the Sabzi Mandi area.
