Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets for Zil Hajj moon sighting today

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is currently holding its meeting in Islamabad to observe the moon of Zil Hajj.

The session is being led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, with members of the committee joined by representatives from Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) to offer their expertise.

Alongside this central meeting, zonal committees in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar are also convening to collect moon sighting testimonies from their respective regions.

These reports will then be sent to the central committee for review. The official announcement regarding the start date of Zil Hajj will depend on the moon sighting, with the chairman set to declare the final date for Eidul Adha once visibility is confirmed across Pakistan.

Based on information from the PMD and SUPARCO, the moon’s age this evening will be only 11 hours, a period deemed too short for it to be visible according to astronomical standards.

SUPARCO forecasts that the first day of Zil Hajj is expected to fall on May 29, which would place the celebration of Eidul Adha on Saturday, June 7, assuming the calculations remain accurate.
