YouTube launches custom thumbnails for shorts

California  (Web Desk): YouTube has introduced a highly anticipated feature that users have been requesting for years, making it easier to customize thumbnails for Shorts videos.

The platform has launched new tools that allow creators to edit and update thumbnails for their videos. However, the feature is currently available only to creators enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program, meaning those who monetize their content.

Eligible creators can now upload custom thumbnail images for their Shorts, helping their videos stand out and attract more viewers.

They will also be able to change the thumbnails of previously uploaded videos through YouTube Studio on desktop computers and laptops.

According to the company, the feature will be expanded to more users in the near future.

On desktop, creators will be able to choose one of three suggested frames as the thumbnail for a video. While this option has long been available for standard-length videos, it is now being introduced for Shorts as well.

On the YouTube mobile app, creators will continue to have the option of selecting any frame from a video as its thumbnail.
