Senate unanimously passes resolution condemning cross-border aggression from Afghanistan

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Senate unanimously passed a resolution condemning unprovoked attacks and hostile cross-border activities originating from Afghan territory, labeling them as breaches of international law and diplomatic norms.

The resolution, tabled by Senator Sherry Rehman and adopted in the presence of Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, warned that any effort to undermine Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, or national security would be treated as a direct insult to the nation’s honor and would be met with a firm, measured, and decisive response.

Members of the House paid tribute to the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies for maintaining vigilance along the country’s borders.

The resolution also recalled Pakistan’s longstanding engagement with Afghanistan, highlighting that for over four decades the country has shouldered substantial economic, social, and security burdens by hosting millions of Afghan nationals, providing humanitarian support, promoting peace initiatives, and advocating for Afghanistan’s stability in international forums.

It stressed that these contributions have often come at considerable cost to Pakistan’s own development and internal security.

The Senate expressed disappointment over what it described as a lack of reciprocal goodwill from Afghanistan, citing hostile rhetoric, cross-border violations, and the ongoing presence of anti-Pakistan terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, portraying the situation as a concerning trend that undermines bilateral agreements.

The resolution demanded that the Afghan Taliban immediately stop all aggressive actions, prevent Afghan territory from being used for terrorism or attacks against Pakistan, and fulfill international obligations for peaceful coexistence.

At the same time, the resolution reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to constructive dialogue, regional peace, and mutually respectful relations, while cautioning that patience should not be misinterpreted as weakness, nor a desire for stability as an inability to respond effectively.

The House also urged the international community to take note of these developments and called on Afghan authorities to comply with international norms to avoid further destabilization in the region.

The resolution concluded by emphasizing national unity across political lines in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and backing all measures necessary to protect the country’s territorial integrity and honor.

Its adoption comes amid rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where security challenges have intensified in recent weeks.
