Emergency declared in Punjab hospitals due to flood threats

Lahore (Web Desk): In response to the potential flood threat across Punjab, the Provincial Health and Population Welfare Department has declared a state of emergency in all government hospitals throughout the province. Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir convened an urgent meeting and directed all Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of health facilities and Medical Superintendents to remain on high alert and ensure that all necessary precautions and preparations are in place.

The minister emphasized that emergency wards in all hospitals must be fully operational with adequate stocks of medicines, medical supplies, and staff ready to respond immediately. He also instructed the activation of “Clinics on Wheels” mobile medical units in flood-affected areas to provide timely healthcare services.

Khawaja Imran Nazir stressed the importance of having essential medicines available at all times, including anti-venom and drugs to combat infectious diseases and other emergencies. He urged health officials to maintain continuous coordination with district administrations, Rescue 1122, and other relevant agencies for effective disaster response.

The health minister announced plans to personally visit affected areas to assess the situation and oversee the relief efforts. He reiterated that no negligence or delay in providing medical assistance will be tolerated.

Furthermore, he confirmed that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is closely monitoring the flood relief operations, and her directives have mobilized medical and rescue teams across the province.
