Windstorms, rain-thunderstorms expected in upper & central parts of Pakistan: PMD

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast windstorm and rain-thunderstorm activity in the upper and central parts of the country from the night of May 27 to May 31, with occasional intervals. According to the department, moist currents are continuously penetrating the upper and central regions of Pakistan, while a westerly wave is expected to enter the upper parts on May 28. This weather system is likely to trigger widespread activity during this period.

Under the influence of this weather system, windstorms and rain-thunderstorms accompanied by isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are expected in several areas. These include Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sheikhupura. Additional areas such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak, and Waziristan are also expected to experience similar weather conditions.

Furthermore, windstorm activity accompanied by light to moderate rain and thunderstorm is likely to affect parts of Balochistan and South Punjab. Areas under this forecast include Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Vehari, and Dera Ismail Khan. This phase of the weather activity is expected to persist from the evening or night of May 27 until May 30, also with occasional gaps.

The PMD has issued a warning that windstorms, dust-thunderstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could cause damage to loose structures such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels, particularly in the upper and central parts of the country, including the federal capital, Islamabad. Farmers are advised to manage their crop-related activities in line with the expected weather conditions to avoid potential losses.

The general public, travelers, and tourists have been urged to take precautionary measures during this period of active weather.
