Cholpon-Ata (Web Desk): Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their resolve to remain in close contact and continue regular consultations on matters of shared interest, while pledging to work jointly for lasting peace, regional stability, and common prosperity.
The commitment came during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday.
The two leaders held talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic.
According to an official statement, the discussions focused on the strong and longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Iran, as well as the rapidly changing regional landscape.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of their bilateral ties and exchanged views on recent developments affecting the region.
During the meeting, DPM Dar expressed Pakistan's deep concern over the prevailing regional tensions and stressed that dialogue, restraint, de-escalation, and continuous diplomatic engagement by all parties remain essential for securing sustainable peace and stability.
He also underlined the need to build upon the understandings reached under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June 2026.
FM Araghchi commended Pakistan for its consistent diplomatic support and acknowledged its constructive contribution to efforts aimed at strengthening regional peace and security.
He further thanked the Pakistani government for facilitating the safe repatriation of Iranian fishermen and crew members, including those aboard vessels intercepted by the United States (US).
Araghchi appreciated Pakistan's close coordination with Iranian, US, and other relevant authorities, which ensured the secure transit of the individuals through Pakistan before their safe return to Iran.
