PM Imran expresses solidarity with India over COVID-19 crisis

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday expressed solidarity with the people of India in their battle against the devastating wave of coronavirus.

In his message on Twitter, the prime minster prayed for the speedy recovery of those suffering from Covid-19 in the neighbourhood and the world.

PM Imran urged that all countries must fight this global challenge confronting humanity together.

Earlier, Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi had extended Pakistan's heartfelt sympathies to the families affected by COVID-19 in India.

"We express our support to the people of India in the wake of the current wave of COVID-19 infections, that has hit our region hard," FM Qureshi said.

Qureshi said COVID-19 is yet another reminder that humanitarian issues require responses beyond political consideration.

He added that Pakistan is working with SAARC countries to foster cooperation to tackle the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has also expressed concern over the Covid-19 situation across the border.

In a tweet, the information minister said, “In these difficult times our prayers are with people of India may God be kind and may these difficult times get over soon.”

The situation continues to get worse in India as another 2,624 deaths, a new daily record, were reported in 24 hours, taking the official toll to nearly 190,000 since the pandemic started.

More than 340,000 new cases were also reported, taking India's total to 16.5 million, second only to the United States (US).

People across India scrambled for life-saving oxygen supplies on Friday and patients lay dying outside hospitals as the capital recorded the equivalent of one death from COVID-19 every five minutes.
