Tehran: Amidst an outpouring of grief and reverence, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei solemnly led the funeral prayer for the late President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Thran Times reported.
The University of Tehran campus was filled to capacity as Iranians from all walks of life gathered to pay their final respects to the beloved officials.
Tens of thousands of people prayed behind Ayatollah Khamenei inside the university, while thousands more filled the streets outside, unable to enter the overcrowded venue.
Prominent Iranian officials and military leaders were present at the funeral prayer, mourning the tragic loss of President Raisi and Minister Amir Abdollahian, who perished in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran on Sunday. Additionally, leaders from various regional resistance groups, such as Hamas political Chief Ismail Haniyeh and Islamic Jihad Leader Ziad al-Nakhala, were also in attendance at the ceremony.
The two officials lost their lives during a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran on Monday, which occurred due to severe weather conditions.
Their funeral processions began on Tuesday in the city of Tabriz and will continue until Friday.
