Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz inaugurates first Green Policing Unit

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday inaugurated the first Green Policing Unit in the history of Pakistan, marking the launch of electric vehicle patrolling in the country.

The initiative marks a significant shift toward environmentally responsible law enforcement.

At the inauguration in Lahore, the chief minister personally inspected the electric patrol car and also drove the vehicle to experience it firsthand.

She was later briefed by officials on the purpose of the unit and the technical capabilities of the newly introduced vehicles.

According to the briefing, the electric patrol vehicle is capable of covering up to 410 kilometers on a single charge and supports rapid charging, allowing the battery level to increase from 30 percent to 80 percent in around 30 minutes.

The vehicle is equipped with modern policing tools, including an integrated surveillance and public address system, police emergency lights, a 360-degree camera, and speed detection technology to support effective and sustainable patrolling.

The Punjab CM also directed a gradual increase in the number of electric vehicles for the Green Policing Unit and ordered steps for phase-wise expansion of the unit to other districts.
