2 children killed, 5 injured in firing on school van in Attock

Attock (Web Desk): At least two children were killed and five were injured after gunmen open fire on school van in Dheri kot area of Attock.

According to rescue sources, all children were between 10 and 12 years old, while driver of the van was also injured in the firing.

The dead bodies and injured children were shifted to DHQ Hospital.

After the incident, the police rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.

According to police, the accused fled the spot after the incident.

Attock District Police Officer (DPO) Sardar Ghayas Gul said that the initial investigation suggests the gunmen targeted the van due to a personal enmity with the driver.

The DPO also formed police teams to arrest the accused.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have strongly condemned the firing on a school van in Attock.

In a statement, the president said that targeting innocent children is a highly despicable act. He said strict action should be taken against the culprits.

He prayed for the departed souls and recovery of the injured.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said such kind of attack on children is quite cruel and gruesome act.

He expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls and early recovery of the injured.

The prime minister directed the authorities concerned to take stern action against the responsible and provide best treatment facilities to the inured children.

Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Maryam Nawaz has sought a report from Rawalpindi Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak.

She has also expressed deep sorrow over the death of the two children in the attack.

The Punjab CM also directed relevant authorities to provide the best treatment facilities to the children who have sustained injuries.
