Non-bailable arrest warrant issued for Gandapur in arms, liquor recovery case

Islamabad (Web Desk): An Islamabad district and sessions court on Tuesday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur in a case involving the recovery of arms and liquor.

The decision came after Gandapur repeatedly failed to attend scheduled court hearings.

Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan has instructed the police to take the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader into custody and present him before the court, which will reconvene on October 28.

The case was filed at the Bara Kahu Police Station in the federal capital. This marks the second time in recent weeks that the court has ordered Gandapur’s arrest, as a similar warrant was issued last month following his absence from proceedings.

Since stepping down from office, Gandapur has faced increasing legal scrutiny. His party, the PTI, has also remained under significant legal and political pressure since the violent incidents of May 9, 2023.

Several PTI figures, including party founder and former premier Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and Yasmin Rashid, continue to be held in custody on multiple charges.
