We will increase support for Lebanon and will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons: Trump

Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has said the United States is committed to strengthening its relationship with Lebanon and expanding assistance to the country, reaffirming Washington’s support for its stability and security.

Speaking during a meeting with Lebanese President at the White House, Trump said Lebanon has endured decades of political and security challenges, but the United States intends to engage with the country through a relationship based on mutual respect and constructive cooperation.

The US president said efforts are underway to address several issues facing Lebanon, including those related to Hezbollah.

He noted that the Lebanese Armed Forces are gradually assuming control in areas that were previously under Hezbollah’s influence, describing it as an important step toward strengthening state authority.

Commenting on the situation in the Middle East, Trump said the United States would not allow Yemen’s Houthi movement to block shipping routes in the Red Sea.

He warned that Washington would take the necessary measures if any attempt was made to disrupt navigation through the strategic waterway.

On Iran, Trump said Tehran is seeking to reach an agreement with the United States, but added that Washington has no interest in negotiations unless Iran is prepared to engage in meaningful talks. He reiterated that the US would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

The US president also said the United States possesses the world’s most advanced military equipment and weapons, adding that Iran’s military capabilities are being weakened.

He stressed that the US is closely monitoring developments in the region and would take further action if required.
