Distrust in the US is the biggest obstacle to talks, says Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian

Tehran (Web Desk): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has taken a firm stance on the possibility of talks with the United States, saying that deep mistrust and contradictory statements from Washington remain the biggest obstacles to meaningful negotiations.

In his remarks, the Iranian president stressed that dialogue cannot be achieved through words alone, but requires “commitment to fulfilling promises” as a fundamental condition.

He said that until the United States ensures compliance with previously made agreements, any form of dialogue would be pointless.

Masoud Pezeshkian further criticized what he described as inconsistent and unconstructive statements from US officials, arguing that such positions are complicating the situation further.

He added that Washington is effectively demanding Iran’s “surrender” under the guise of negotiations, which Tehran categorically rejects.

Reaffirming Iran’s position, the president stated that the country is sovereign and will not yield to pressure or force under any circumstances. He emphasized that negotiations can only be productive if based on equality and mutual respect.

The statement comes at a time of continued regional tensions, with global powers closely watching any potential thaw between Tehran and Washington. Iran, however, has made it clear that any progress now depends on a change in the US approach.
