PM Shehbaz orders transparent, rapid privatisation of PIA

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the need for a fast and transparent privatisation process for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), urging that all formalities and procedures be completed efficiently.

During a meeting on the affairs of PIA in Islamabad, the prime minister instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan aimed at increasing the number of serviceable aircraft in the national carrier’s fleet and ensuring flights depart on schedule.

The meeting included a detailed briefing on the ongoing privatization process and the airline’s future business strategy.

It was revealed that four parties have been pre-qualified to participate in the privatization, with the bidding expected to commence shortly.

Under the plan, 75% of PIA’s shares will be privatized, with a condition that the airline’s name and its status as the national flag carrier remain unchanged.

Officials also outlined the business plan, noting that the number of airworthy planes will rise from 18 to 38.

Currently serving thirty cities, PIA’s network is projected to expand to more than forty destinations by 2029.

PM Shehbaz highlighted that the privatisation should not only strengthen the airline financially but also improve its operational efficiency and service quality for passengers.
