Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Interior Minsiter Sheikh Rasheed on Saturday said that the government may impose strict restrictions and smart lockdowns in the coming days due to surge in COVID-19 cases.
“I did not say at all that a lockdown will begin on Monday. False reports attributed to me have been circulating,” said Rasheed in a video statement as reports began to circulate of a nationwide lockdown.
Earlier the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan tested positive for Covid-19 and is isolating himself at home.
“PM Imran Khan has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self isolating at home,” said the SAPM in a tweet.
On Saturday, total number of coronavirus cases across the country surge to 623,135 and the active cases stand at 27,188. Pakistan reported 42 deaths taking the nationwide death tally to 13,799.
According to NCOC, at least 40,946 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, out of which 3,876 were positive. The national positivity ratio went up to 9.46%.
