JCP recommends confirmations, appointments of judges and extension of constitutional benches

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, has made key recommendations regarding the confirmation and appointment of judges for the Sindh, Islamabad, and Peshawar High Courts, as well as the extension of the constitutional benches of the Sindh High Court.

The Commission met at the Supreme Court building in Islamabad to review matters related to judicial appointments, confirmations, and the tenure of constitutional benches.

For the Sindh High Court, the Commission recommended extending the term of Additional Judge Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani for another six months after reviewing his record and performance.

However, it did not recommend the confirmation of Additional Judge Justice Syed Fiaz ul Hassan Shah as a permanent judge.

The Commission also approved a three-month extension for the constitutional benches of the Sindh High Court.

In addition, it recommended the appointment of Advocate Muhammad Humayon Khan, District and Sessions Judge Suresh Kumar, and Advocate Dr. Shah Nawaz Memon as additional judges of the Sindh High Court.

Two vacant positions remained unfilled after the nominees failed to secure the required majority of votes within the Commission.

For the Islamabad High Court, the Commission recommended the appointment of Advocate Ayyaz Shaukat, District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, and Advocate Umair Majeed Malik as additional judges.

Regarding the Peshawar High Court, the Commission recommended confirming Justice Farah Jamshed, Justice Inaam Ullah Khan, Justice Sabit Ullah Khan, and Justice Aurangzeb as permanent judges after evaluating their service records, professional performance, and other relevant material.

The recommendations are part of the Judicial Commission’s ongoing efforts to fill vacant judicial positions and strengthen the functioning of Pakistan’s higher judiciary.
