Iran's Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni lands in Pakistan on official visit

Islamabad (Web Desk): Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni arrived in Pakistan on Monday along with a high-level delegation for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi received his Iranian counterpart at the airport. Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam was also present on the occasion, while Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry welcomed Momeni by presenting him with a bouquet.

Welcoming the visiting minister, Mohsin Naqvi said, “I welcome you to Pakistan.”

The Iranian delegation accompanying Momeni includes the Governor-General of Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister, the Deputy Minister for Urban Development and Transport, the head of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), the special representative of Iran’s agriculture minister, and other senior officials.

During his official visit, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met with Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad. In the meeting, Momeni expressed happiness over meeting his Pakistani counterpart again and referred to him as his “brother.”

He said relations between Pakistan and Iran were exemplary and appreciated the warm hospitality extended by the Pakistani government and people.

“I have always appreciated the hospitality of the government and people of Pakistan,” Momeni said.

Mohsin Naqvi expressed hope that the Iranian minister’s visit would further strengthen cooperation and enhance relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Welcoming Momeni, Naqvi said he hoped the visit would bring positive developments, promote bilateral ties, and contribute to progress on regional issues.

During his stay, the Iranian interior minister is also expected to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

The visit comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly following renewed clashes linked to the Strait of Hormuz and uncertainty surrounding an interim understanding between Tehran and Washington.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson recently stated that diplomatic communication with the United States through mediators was continuing despite US military strikes against Iran.

Pakistan had earlier said it would encourage both sides to end hostilities and return to negotiations under a memorandum of understanding that Islamabad helped facilitate last month.

The temporary agreement and prospects for a long-term ceasefire were placed under pressure after renewed fighting erupted earlier this month.

Eskandar Momeni has previously participated in mediation efforts and held discussions with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during his visit to Iran.
