Heavy snowfall paralyzes daily life in Japan’s Hokkaido region

Tokyo (Web Desk): Heavy snowfall in Japan’s Hokkaido region has brought daily life to a standstill, causing widespread disruptions in transport and electricity services.

The severe weather led to the cancellation of 145 flights and suspension of 295 passenger trains across the region.

Authorities have also closed more than 300 schools as a precautionary measure, while residents have been advised to avoid non-essential travel. Local businesses are facing significant disruptions due to the extreme conditions.

In Sapporo, 44 centimeters of snow were recorded within 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has forecasted further snowfall over the next 24 hours, raising concerns that the situation could worsen.
