Iran calls new US sanctions 'economic terrorism,' 'crimes against humanity'

Tehran (Web Desk): Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday rejected the latest economic and trade sanctions announced by the United States (US), saying that the measures would ultimately hurt ordinary Iranians and describing them as “economic terrorism” and crimes against humanity.

The Iranian reaction followed remarks by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, when he warned that countries offering “any type of lifeline to Iran” would be exposed to severe economic repercussions.

Trump threatened to pursue economic warfare against Tehran while seeking to impose isolation on an unprecedented scale.

Despite the growing economic pressure from Washington, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the new measures would not alter Tehran’s determination to safeguard its independence, national sovereignty and interests.
