Pakistan launches first Hyper-Spectral satellite HS-1 with China’s collaboration

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan has successfully launched its first hyper-spectral satellite, HS-1, marking the beginning of a new era in space technology with the help of China. The announcement was made by SUPARCO (Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), Pakistan's space agency, calling it a significant milestone in the country’s space program. The satellite is capable of providing detailed analysis of land, vegetation, water bodies, and urban areas.

HS-1’s unique capability lies in its ability to capture precise images across hundreds of optical bands, making it a game-changer for agricultural planning, environmental monitoring, and identifying geographical hazards. SUPARCO Chairman, Muhammad Yusuf Khan, congratulated the nation on this achievement, noting that it was a result of the full support of the Pakistani government and underscored the country’s move towards self-reliance in space technology.

According to SUPARCO, the HS-1 satellite will enable precise monitoring of agricultural crops, soil, and water quality. It will also assist in tracking deforestation, pollution, and the melting of glaciers. Moreover, the satellite will aid in identifying geographical risks related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, which will play a key role in the nation’s social and economic development.

This marks Pakistan's third satellite launch this year, with the HS-1 now successfully entering its designated orbit. SUPARCO also mentioned that while the satellite is now in position, full activation and testing will take approximately two months.
