Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to eliminating terrorism from Pakistan.
Addressing a meeting of the National Action Plan's Apex Committee in Islamabad, the premier emphasized the critical need to defeat terrorist groups in order to ensure peace and progress in the country.
He acknowledged the rising wave of terrorist attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), describing terrorism as one of the most significant challenges facing the nation.
Reflecting on past successes, he reminded those present that terrorism was largely overcome in 2018 due to the collective efforts and sacrifices of the people and security forces, and through a comprehensive national strategy developed under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif.
In addition to addressing security concerns, PM Shehbaz expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in the country’s economy.
He pointed to key indicators showing that the economy was steadily improving.
The premier highlighted the stock market's historic performance, noting that it had reached an all-time high, and praised the reduction in inflation to single-digit levels.
Furthermore, PM Shehbaz acknowledged the decrease in the policy interest rate from 22% to 15%, which he believes would contribute to stabilizing the economy.
The prime minister also underscored the significant growth in IT exports and a notable increase in remittances, both of which had contributed to the country's economic recovery.
He appreciated the role played by provincial governments and institutions in supporting these improvements and securing Pakistan's engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
Throughout his remarks, the premier emphasized the importance of collective efforts for the country's advancement, urging all stakeholders to work together in the spirit of cooperation.
He also expressed regret over the impact of disruptive political tactics, such as sit-ins, on national stability and progress.
PM Shehbaz said that political stability is essential for fostering economic development and ensuring a prosperous future for the country.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers, provincial chief ministers, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, all of whom were urged to support these efforts in securing Pakistan’s future.
