Bani Gala properties: PM submits request for regularization

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Prime Minister Imran Khan has submitted a request for regularisation of his two Bani Gala properties.

PM Imran submitted papers to Capital Development Authority (CDA) pertaining to his 250 kanal residence and an adjoining property in the Bani Gala suburbs of the federal capital.

“The premier submitted ownership papers, maps and other related documents to CDA,” the sources said.

CDA has started regularisation of Bani Gala Zone 4. “The regularisation process began after CDA received 132 requests of commercial and residential properties, including that of the premier, in zone 4,” sources added.

Owners will have to pay commercialisation charges in the form of a fee which will be Rs3,500 per square foot, sources added. “In addition, residential property owners will have to pay a penalty of Rs100 per square foot while commercial property owners while have to pay Rs200 per square foot as penalty.”

Further, Bani Gala Zone 4 residents will have to pay development charges separately.

Last month, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that Prime Minister Imran Khan must pay the fee to regularise his Bani Gala residence today.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard a case regarding encroachments and environmental degradation in Bani Gala.

“Tell the prime minister to get his residence regularized,” the bench told PM Imran’s counsel Babar Awan.

The additional attorney general requested the court for an extension till Thursday in the Bani Gala encroachment case. However, the top judge said, “No further extensions would be granted, and that Prime Minister Imran Khan should pay the fees today”.

He said the prime minister should set an example and pay the regularisation fee today. “He [PM Imran] was the first to highlight these issues. PM Imran should regularise his own residence and set an example for others to follow.”

Justice Nisar also warned that the prime minister will be summoned in the case if the regularisation fee is not paid.
